It all started in a 300-square-foot studio apartment in downtown DC. Our founder, Maya, had just graduated college and moved into what the rental listing generously called a “cozy urban retreat.” The reality? Four walls, one window, and barely enough room to fully open the refrigerator door.

But Maya refused to let square footage dictate her style.

Armed with a eye for design and a serious case of creative stubbornness, she began hunting for pieces that could make her tiny space feel like home. What she found was frustrating: either bland, forgettable items marketed as “small space solutions,” or gorgeous statement pieces that would swallow her entire room whole.

There had to be something in between—pieces with personality that were actually designed for real small spaces.

So she started creating them herself.

Maya’s first creation was a bold geometric rug that perfectly fit her awkward living area while adding the pop of color her neutral walls desperately needed. Friends started asking where she got it. Then came the custom curtains that made her one window look like three, followed by throws that doubled as wall art and extra seating for impromptu dinner parties on the floor.

As word spread through her building and across the DC area, Maya realized something else: people wanted to express their style beyond just their living spaces.
